May’s programme is now in place and I think you’ll find it packed with something for everyone. There are two themes running through it, Hampshire Hangers and the Purbeck Challenge.
Hampshire Hangers – I have planned ten walks which encompass the Hampshire Hangers (and some sections of the Hangers Way) from Petersfield to just north of Alton. Each walk is circular and they vary from 4 to 9 miles in length. Some of the venues will be familiar and others new to you. There are two walks each week, which are repeated at the weekend, so no-one has to miss out. The very nature of a hanger means that there are some steep climbs, but also some fantastic views, and generally the paths skirt the hangers so it’s not all climbing.
Purbeck Challenge – As promised I have details of the Nordic Walking Festival in Purbeck from 17-19 September. The Challenge is a 27 mile walk on the 18th. I am a nominated coach for the challenge and as such NWUK Petersfield is running a comprehensive training plan to support anyone who wants to take part in the challenge. You will see we have Interval training on Wednesday evenings at Petersfield Heath, Hills and Drills on Friday evenings on Butser Hill and Sunday’s walk will be a planned training walk. Please feel free to join any of these sessions, whether you are going to take part in the challenge or not, as they will be a great way for us all to increase our fitness, along with supporting one another. If you feel daunted by the 27 mile challenge, there is also a 16 mile challenge, and a virtual challenge. For details go to walx.events. Attached is the training plan so you have a guide to the structure. I have booked my tickets and campsite and welcome anyone who wants to join me.
Don’t worry, there is still the weekly early morning walk and also a gentle walk on Thursday afternoon, repeated on Thursday evening. Sorry I don’t think I can fit any more in. The attached pdf gives you a monthly overview so you can plan and book ahead.
